Our East Village ankle surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, with no overnight stay required. At Lifetime Podiatry, we’re pleased to offer an array of valuable foot-related services, which include performing necessary procedures to promote optimal recovery from injuries.
Fortunately, many ankle injuries can be treated with non-invasive methods. Depending on both the nature of the injury (sprain, strain, fracture) and the severity of it, you may do very well with options that include simple rest (staying off the ankle), wearing a cast, the application of ice to manage swelling, medication, and possibly crutches or a walker. Sprains and strains will rarely require our East Village ankle surgery, though recurring sprains might indicate that you have an underlying instability that needs to be addressed with a procedure. Most typically, surgery is utilized for the setting of a broken bone. This is not always the case, of course. Hairline fractures are an exception. And even some full ones do not need to be treated with an invasive procedure if they are clean, which is to say that the two pieces of bone can simply heal back into one without any assistance. A complex fracture needs to be set. The two pieces need to be lined back up so that recovery can begin. Essentially, when you have ankle pain of any kind, you should come in as soon as you can to be examined and evaluated by our foot doctor. X-rays are typically needed in order to determine the best treatment path, or in the case of a fracture, to see how the bone fragments are lined up.
